The Text: Luke 5 : 1-11 ….. The Context : Jesus has been visiting towns throughout Judea ( the large province in Israel that includes Jerusalem). He speaks in the synagogues and also teaches in open areas where the crowds gather to hear him. He teaches the truth with authority and heals peoples’ diseases. In Luke 5, Jesus begins to call out twelve disciples who will travel and serve with Him for the next three years.
