Girl Scouts: More Than Cookies

When Melissa Mihalcean and Tamika Cooley heard that food pantries have bare shelves in the summer, they asked their Girl Scout troops to take action. So on a beautiful summer night, 15 girls joined forces with Bloomingdale Church to distribute food drive fliers stapled to grocery bags to nearly 1,000 Bloomingdale residents. Pastor Bill Calvin asked the girls what merit badge they were going to receive for this community service. One of the girls replied, “Our leader taught us that the point of community service is to help others and not worry about the merit badge.” Thank you Girl Scout troops numbers 41851 and 50570. Your efforts had a hand in collecting 384 bags of food for local food pantries.
