The Texts: 1st Kings 19 : 1-18 ; “The Story” Chapter 15. ….    Note: You may have to click on the “read more” button below to reveal the message outline and audio links.    ….    Key Characters: Elijah – Devoted spokesman and prophet of God from Gilead who risks his life to stand up to the evil in his country.  Ahab – Seventh king of Israel [the northern kingdom] , a destructive, spineless man.  Jezebel – Wife of King Ahab, advocate for idolatry [Baal and Asherah] in Israel.   …   The Context: The 8th century BC was a dark time with Israel in a state of widespread moral, social and spiritual disintegration. King Ahab and Queen Jezebel were pompous, selfish and vicious leaders who were pushing the people into idolatry.  Elijah confronts the nation’s pathetic sins and apathy toward God.  Elijah courageously stands up to the king, the 850 false prophets and the people in a grand showdown.  “How long will you hesitate between two opinions?  If the Lord is God follow Him, but if Baal follow him.”   ….    Pastor David Riemenschneider delivers this weeks message, the next in the series : “The Story” , a chronological journey through the entire bible.   …   The message is preceded by the call to worship, which is at a very low audio level, so you may have to turn up the volume on your speakers for this part of the audio MP3 link.
