Day Camp 2017 – Tuesday

By Stuart G on June 14, 2017

Welcome to Day Camp 2017!  Let’s join 2nd grader Lucy on her first day at Friendship National Park:

Lucy was greeted with the smiling faces of counselors, teachers, and fellow hikers. Upon entering her classroom, the “Beaver Lodge,” she began to learn her Bible verse for the week: to love God with her whole being and to love her neighbor as herself (Mark 12:30-31). She soon joined all of her fellow hikers at “King’s Mountain” where she sang songs like “The Jesus Chant” and “Good Good Father.”  Lucy learned how God is the best friend she could ever have, and how she could be a good friend by showing love to others! After hiking back down King’s Mountain, she was not only able to hear stories of God’s love with hikers in her grade, but also played games like “zombie cow tag.” After a refreshing snack time, she joined her fellow hikers in decorating tie-dyed t-shirts, and returned to the Beaver Lodge where she did more fun activities with her friends. She can’t wait to come back tomorrow and visit “Tadpole and Caterpillar Marsh”!

Tuesday’s Program

Party with the PAK

By Chelsea C on June 8, 2017

It was a warm night at the end of May. Anticipation was rising as the kids were about to show up. Music pumping, crafts set out, check-in ready—all that’s left is to wait.

Finally, the kids started pouring in. A kid checked in, wrote a prayer request and put it in the jar, went into the room and got water or started doing a craft. As each student entered, I got to chat with them and hear about their latest adventures. After a while, we started some ice breaker games including the Name Game, where you get to hit each other (gently) with a noodle, and Never Have I Ever. Laughter filled the air!

It was a beautiful evening, so we moved the party outside. The kids competed in groups of four to see who could get be the first person to get 10 gummy bears out of the tin full of whipped cream. It was intense, to say the least! They all looked like cute, little Gibbon monkeys when they were done with white completely covering their faces! Next up, we blew up balloons and had the kids pair up. They got to cover their balloon with shaving cream and then had to race to shave it all off without popping the balloon. Only one team had their balloon pop. The night ended with a splash – water balloon toss! After all the playing, it was time to fill hungry bellies so we had snacks. We had a cereal bar where kids combined the most unthinkable of cereals. Wednesday nights have easily become my favorite night of the week!

If you are going into 5th or 6th grade, join us next time!
