The Practice of Generosity and Gratitude

By Danny Muñoz on November 6, 2017

Have you ever noticed that genuinely generous people are full of joy? Or how full of life people who take the time to notice their blessings are?

Generosity and gratitude are two dispositions that illustrate the abundant life Jesus desires to give: “I have come that they may have life, and life to the full.” (John 10:10)

An essential element to this full life Jesus desires for us is love. We encounter God’s love as we receive his generous gifts with grateful hearts. God cares for us so much that he wants us to have tangible, experiential evidence of his kindness. A second way we experience the love of God is when we model his generosity to others. When we selflessly give of our time, talents, and treasures to those around us in need we are putting God’s love on display for the world to see. After all, generosity is gratitude revealed.

Try this:
1) Consider how blessed you truly are and be grateful to the generous Lord above.  “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
2) Be generous to those around you as an outworking of the overflow of gratitude you have for your blessings.  “…Freely you have received; freely give.” Matthew 10:8b

If you practice the art of generosity and gratitude, you will not only be more aware of God’s love in and through you; you will experience God’s abundant life for yourself and allow others to participate in it too!
